Cottage 12, 'Mizpah Home' with its young residents soon after its opening in 1884
The funds were provided by Alexander Forrester-Paton of Alloa, grandson of the founder of Paton's Yarns, an internationally renowned manufacturer of woollen yarn. He donated £1500 in August 1883 and the property was opened in September 1884.
The name 'Mizpah' can be found in the Old Testament and refers to a 'place of watching', a watch-tower.
